Bayesian Frequentists: Examining the Paradox Between What Researchers Can Conclude Versus What They Want to Conclude From Statistical Results

چکیده

A majority of statistically educated scientists draw incorrect conclusions based on the most commonly used statistical technique: null hypothesis significance testing (NHST). Frequentist techniques are often claimed to be incorrectly interpreted as Bayesian outcomes, which suggests that a framework may fit better inferences researchers frequently want make (Briggs, 2012). The current study set out test this proposition. Firstly, we investigated whether there is discrepancy between what think they can conclude and able from NHST. Secondly, extent incorporate prior results their personal beliefs in inference. Results show expected NHST conclude. Furthermore, were interested incorporating results, but not beliefs, into

What Can We Conclude from Death Registration? Improved Methods for Evaluating Completeness

BACKGROUND One of the fundamental building blocks for determining the burden of disease in populations is to reliably measure the level and pattern of mortality by age and sex. Where well-functioning registration systems exist, this task is relatively straightforward. Results from many civil registration systems, however, remain uncertain because of a lack of confidence in the completeness of d...

Reflecting on homework in psychotherapy: what can we conclude from research and experience?

This article examines the empirical basis of using homework in psychotherapy and then offers a synthesis of the research literature with the preceding clinical articles. We provide a practitioner-friendly review of psychotherapy process and outcome research literature, concluding that there is now sufficient evidence to support the assertion that homework assignments enhance psychotherapy outco...

What do review papers conclude about food and dietary patterns?

Nutrients and other bioactive constituents of foods may interact with each other and the surrounding food matrix in complex ways. Therefore, associations between single nutrients and chronic disease may be difficult to identify and interpret, but when dietary patterns (DPs) are examined the combination of many food factors will be considered. An explorative literature search of published review...

Mortality patterns in British and US radiologists: what can we really conclude?

There have been several studies of age-specific and cause-specific mortality among radiologists, with the goal of quantifying the effects of their radiation exposure. The most recent report, published by Doll and colleagues [1], assessed 100 years of observations in terms of mortality from cancer and other causes. Relative to all male physicians, male British radiologists who entered the field ...
